Matching up

I've been in need of some well earned retail therapy but the best i could do was go window shopping...online! (Don't worry mom and dad, im not out splurging). Anyway, i got carried away and starting matching up clothes and accessories and i've created three fabulous looks!

The first look is my take on casual friday. Some people really take it too far and either overdress and turn up tarty or just arrive looking like they are in their PJs! This look is casual but still smart and very appropriate for work. The cream ruffle blouse, dark skinny flared jeans, flower bangle and waistcoat are all from miss selfridge. The gorgeous bag is Dior by John Galliano and brightens up the outfit. The courts are from Kurt Geiger...a bit too high for me but its virtual right?!

Next up is this sexy Plait kimono dress also from miss selfridge. I would pair it with jeans for daytime and its a great way to keep warm depending on which climes you live in. The Faux snake skin oversized bag is great when you're on the move...laptops, water bottles, umbrella and whatever else you wanna log around with you. Its got designer looks but its actually from warehouse and costs £40. The brown slingbacks are from Carvela.

This look is perfect for a party or a date since valentine's day is coming up :-) . I Love this teal slinky backless dress from warehouse and i've paired it with Jimmy Choo open toe sandals...very glam! This fun patterned clutch is from Dune and i think it goes nicely with the dress. The gold necklace is by Swarovski and works well with the plunging neckline of the dress...like the crystals and the large moonlight stone in the bottom circle. I couldnt resist adding that butterfly leather waist belt, i dont know if it necessarily goes with the dress but i just want to covet it! It actually reminds me off something you might find at Tigertem...the whole butterfly element.

I dunno...what do you think?

Gabby on Ugly Betty

Yay! I've just seen the latest episode of ugly betty and what do you know, Gabrielle Union has been cast as Dominique, Wihlemena Slater's (Vanessa Williams) younger sister and Daniel's (Eric Mabius) new love interest. Yay! Im really stoked! It looks like there may be a very interesting storyline there. I'm really impressed with the diversity on Ugly betty, almost all races and ethnicities are represented and its just really funny. I don't think there's ever been an episode when i haven't rolled around in fits of laughter. Go betty!

Favourites From the SAG Awards

Kate Beckinsale turned up in a yellow tiered Luisa Beccaria dress and full on bling! I think that jeweled brooch adds a lil sumthin sumthin to the dress. I love Marcia Cross' Teal Monique Lhuillier gown, she looks beautiful and the colour really compliments are skin tone and red hair. I love Ana Ortiz's dramatic black Pamela Dennis dress and the sparkly brooch, it gives her a great silhoutte...I think people may be a bit spilt on this one though.

I love everything about Sophia's oufit! The nude shoes, the earrings and the waist belt detail makes it look young and fun.

Christina Applegate in a very old hollywood inspired Elie Saab gown. I love the plunging neckline and the detailing but then i look at the bottom and it seems like the dress stopped and then she stood on stilts and they added an extra layer. She looks great though.

America Ferrera looks really pretty in this grey lacey Monique Lhuillier gown. Its very form flattering and i like the top bit with the antique brooch...some people hate it but sorry...im lovin' it. Brittany snow looks very elegant in this sequinned Veronica Lake gown.

Blazer Glory

The Blazer is currently a big hit with the celebs at the moment and its a really great way to smarten up a casual look. Balenciaga made blazers the IT item of fashion week and since then it seems that everyone is rocking the blazer + Jeans look.

However, for as long as i can remember this look has been Jennifer Aniston's uniform so she definately gets top marks for being like six years ahead of the trend.

IT Jacket by Balenciaga
£1295

The high street shops have ofcourse started churning out their own versions so that we common folk can share in the fun. Here are a few i've spotted

Dorothy Perkins Navy herringbone thick striped blazer with metal buttons £30

Topshop Asymetric front boating stripe blazer with military buttons £60

Urban Outfitters Lux Exeter Blazer $68

New Look Pinstripe Jacket with flap pockets £25 (could do without the flaps!)

The Soundtrack to my life...so far :-)

Following Tiger's lead, i've decided to compile a list of my favourite songs. I'm a music nut but i hate it when people ask me what i like because there's so much out there and to sum it all up in a sentence is impossible (obviously i don't want to bore someone with an essay about my music taste, lol!). I've managed to cut it down to about twenty so here it is:

Wasted - Carrie Underwood
Beautifully sang with a great message…stop concentrating on the past and live for today or one day you may just wake up and realise you’ve wasted years wishing and missing out.

Sunday Morning – Maroon 5
Massive fan of this band, lovely chill out tune

Last goodbye/Lover, you should have come over – Jeff Buckley Where do I begin, amazing vocal range, beautiful songs, Lover you should have come over always moves me to tears...Deep stuff! Wish he was still here, he would have made even more amazing music but unfortunately he drowned at the age of 28 leaving just one complete album.

Songs of freedom – Bob Marley
Do I even need to explain...what a genius!

Diary – Alicia Keys
I've bought every album she's produced since day one because i can always trust her music. She seems to be the only young female singer who has managed to keep all her clothes on in music videos and maintained some decorum. Love the intro to this song.

Stupid things – Robin Thicke

Dust/your love – Van Hunt
Brilliant brilliant brilliant. Love the neo-soul genre and really tapped into his music at a time when R&B music was getting very blah and samey.

Get to know you/let’s not play the game – Maxwell
Maxwell!!!!!!! When is he coming back? I've been hearing that he has a new album coming out but that was two years ago. Can't believe he's cut all of his trademark afro.

Everything – Micheal Buble
Such a sweetheart. He manages to perfectly fuse old style swing with jazz and creating a very contemporary sound. I think this and some of his other tracks will definately be on my wedding playlist :-)

Weakness in me – Joan Armatrading
10 things I hate about you :-)

No ordinary love – Sade

Far away – Nickleback

I’d like/Human Angels – Freshly Ground

Forever young – Youth Group
Loved the original by Alphaville but this one is less synth-based euro pop. I first heard this version on The O.C, it was Ryan and Marissa's song.

Your body is a wonderland/clarity – John Mayer
I just love the tone of his voice and he's a great song writer. Your 'body is a wonderland' is a very modern take on the love song and i love it, love it , love it!

Singin’ in the rain – Gene Kelly
Aww....this always cheers me up. Singin' in the rain is one of my favourite movies of all time...i collect old hollywood musicals/movies and showtunes. My old flatmates were always taking the piss out of my love for showtunes and were extremely irritated when i used to blast 'hairspray' for like a month.

Back and forth – Aaliyah
Ooh ya its the l-i-y-a-h. Lol! This reminds me of the 90s when i was growing up and wearing hideous baggy clothes and weird coloured leggings!

When you were young – The Killers

Only this moment - Royskopp
Never thought I'd like a dance track but i love this. Their music is very other wordly and this track feels like magic, i think aliens would love this (if they exist). I'm also currently into 'Technologic' by Daft Punk...creepy video though, there's this robot and it has gums and...dont wanna talk about it anymore!

Raindrops keep failin' on my head - B.J Thomas
Another one that cheers me up from the soundtrack of 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' (love that movie)

Handle me/Be mine - Robyn
Dowatcha gotta do/Too little too late - Jojo
Very talented young lady -powerful voice

Wadrobe I'd like to steal

Okay so i guess i'm not as petite as Racheal Bilson...let's just pretend I am! This would be my dream wadrobe simply for the fact that its pure understated elegance. Its very fashionable but more importantly comfort comes first.

This would so work for me. My biggest fashion phobia is 4inched stilletto heels! No 1. I don't need the extra height and No.2 they hurt like hell! It seems like they were invented to torture us ladies and i look ridiculus walking in them...seriously you would die of laughter if you saw me walk in them after an hour. I live in flats, wedges and block heels (not as sexy but why suffer?)
Even as Summer Roberts on the O.C her clothes were always fabulous (I miss the O.C :-( )
Ahh, i wish i could run up and steal that Zac Posen satchel in the first picture...actually just gimme all of them.

Patrick Dempsey: Mcdreaming for Versace

Patrick Dempsey (aged 41-can you believe it!), people magazine's sexiest man alive runner up and Grey's anatomy's Dr Derek 'McDreamy' Shepard is the new face of Versace's spring/summer line for men. What a stroke of genius! I'm so tired of seeing pretty boys... i likes them manly.
The ad campaign was shot by Celebrated fashion photographer Mario Testino and Donatella is quoted as saying about her new muse: "Patrick's charisma, which defines him both on and off screen, was what led me to choose him to represent Versace menswear. That, and his classic good looks, of course. He has a real masculinity about him." (I concur)

The guy sure looks good in a suit...if i had my way men would only be allowed to be seen in public wearing suits. Don't like the shot with the sunglasses!

If you haven't seen 'Enchanted' yet then run to the cinema right now...I'm a sucker for romantic comedies.

When Robin Was Thicke

I've been a fan of Robin Thicke ever since i heard 'When i get you alone' in 2002...I thought wow who is that? It was very unlike anything I'd heard at the time...very funky soul with an infusion of Beethoven's fith element ( I was hooked!). Back then he was just known as 'Thicke' and had long grungy hair and I searched high and low for his debut album which wasnt released in the Uk.

Anyway the album didnt get him the commercial sucess I think he definately deserved and if you are a recent fan you really need to go back and listen to that album, i really think that album represents a time when he produced the music he wanted to. Dont get me wrong I love his new material...was in the store the first day it came out but he is definately missing that old sparkle he had in his eye before he reached commercial success.

I think its so cute that his wife, actress Paula Patton, is always in his videos even from back in the day, she was even featured on the cover of his first album (erm...tastefully butt naked :-)) They are one cute couple...he better not get any funny ideas now that he's hanging with the likes of 50cents!

I await his next album with eagerness and maybe I'll finally get to see him in concert...cant believe i aint been to one yet after all these years but he is hardly ever in the UK and somehow they all coincided with uni coursework deadlines and as much as i love him, im not crazy enough to waste my folks hard earned money when i should be studying hard.

Oh well one day Robin i'm gonna get to you...its just a matter of time!

The Little White Dress

So I thought this trend would be over by now but it seems to have survived through the summer and fall seasons. Its not about the LBD and staying safe anymore, stars like Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz and Michelle Pfeiffer have gone nuts for this trend mixing with black or going for solid white, ivory and cream.

My two top picks are the Brian Reyes number worn by Kristen Bell...its young and fun (Love the added pop of colour from her clutch) and the lacey Lela Rose design worn by Michelle Pfeiffer is very elegant.

Stylish Baby Bumps

Moms-to-be Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez look amazing in their maternity wear, proof that being preganant doesnt mean looking dowdy. However, these ladies have top designers on speed dial so that probably explains why they look amazing whereas normal folk have to make do with mass produced, ill fitting high street maternity wear.

Halle's gown is designed by Roberto Cavalli and Jenny's is Versace.

Mini Me!

Kerry Washington seems to have found her fashion staple 'the mini dress'. I'll give her some props, she's a great dresser and knows how to work the mini in a sexy and non-slutty way...er em repeat offenders you know who you are! If you're going to wear a mini then cover up your top half and don't show off all your goodies at the same time! I think there are certain people who should just stay away from the mini, its not suited for everyone...know your body type and stick to your limits :-)
If I had to pick a favourite i would go for one of the first two outfits (The Prada and Diab'less). The are all hot!

Selma Blair: Effortless Chic

If you want to go for a more casual lot this season then take some inspiration from Selma...please no sweaty betty joggers and uggs o! (although ive been guilty of that).

She's bang on trend mixing neutrals into her look and its so simple to work and a very flattering colour palette. I've wanted a hat like that for ages but the winter seems to go by quickly and i dont need it anymore :-)

New Years Resolutions ...Finally

Lol! So I finally figured out what im going to be doing differently in my life this year.

Apart from being even more stylish :-) I've decided that I definately need to be more positive and optimistic because the opposite is a complete waste of time and besides people always gravitate towards those who beem positive energy.

Another resolution of mine is to really say what i mean. Im referring to those moments when someone really pisses me off and instead of really saying "get out of my face freak, you're making me angry" I usually say...nothing! Or when some idiot bumps into me and sprays their coffee all over my dry clean only coat, instead of automatically saying "sorry" I will now say "watch it idiot" and demand an apology and money for my dry cleaning".

Im also going to stop caring what people think about me and basing all my decisions on other people (easier said than done but im giving it a go). Finally, im going to declutter my friends...thats right im striking people off! This seems harsh but I've come to the realisation that some people just dont contribute positively to my life. Why should i make time for people who can't make time for me? I know thats gonna be a hard one and letting go of some friendships are not easy but after a while when you're the only one trying and making an effort you really have to question just how important you are to certain individuals who are suppose to be your friends.

Some less emotional but still important things i still need to do include organising my itunes library and sort out a case for my ipod!

Katie Wants To Be a Goddess

Katie Holmes went for the grecian goddess element at the 'lions for lambs' premiere in November wearing a one shouldered black silk gown designed by Monique Lhuillier. To really complete the look, she teamed the dress with strappy flat sandals.
She is back channelling her inner goddess at the critics choice awards in Santa Monica wearing a sequined Lanvin creation paired with Louboutin peep-toes.
She looks gorgeous in both dresses but i personally prefer the black gown especially with the sandals, its simplier but much more elegant especially for the red carpet.

Blake Lively Instyle Photoshoot :The tuxedo look

Blake Lively stars as upper-east sider Serena Van der Woodsen in CW's teen drama series 'Gossip Girl'. I've only had time to watch 3 episodes of the show but you have to be blind not to notice the trendy and ever so stylish outfits every week.

Blake was featured in a fashion shoot for the December issue of instyle magazine and I just love the clothes she got to wear and I think although it was meant to be an ultra glam shoot, she really made the outfits wearable and down-to-earth. I particularly like this 'Tuxedo style outfit. Its a really clever way of working the masculine influenced look with fenimine touches. The olive dress by Zac Posen is so gorgeous and combined with that pose reminds me of a revamped version of Marilyn Monroe's white dress from 'Some like it hot'.

Freddy and Ma: Bespoke Handbags

I stumbled on this fab website that lets you design your own one-of-a-kind handbag…isn’t it fun!? Basically the idea is that you select a bag style you like and then make it your own by combining beautiful prints, leathers and bold hardware…its an avenue to be as creative as you like and have a little fun. Alternatively, you can shop from their own designs and limited edition bags.

Fans include Sienna Miller, Gabrielle Union and Jojo among others. Prices Range from $85 - $350. So get creative at http://www.freddyandma.com/

Red Devil

I'm usually not a fan of bright reds...too obvious and daring for me. However, a few handbags have caught my attention recently and I must say i've been converted to team red! I love the limited edition Dooney and Burke 'Hayden Panettiere' Designer handbag. Its red patent leather and went on sale in December at a $500 price tag.

My second pick is this lovely and rather pricey Miu Miu leather bag in red with a shoulder strap. It retails at a whooping $1270! Well I guess if you want an IT bag you gotta be willing to break the bank :-)
